War Poems

These perfume letters
Forget I never
My tears are wetter
After the rain comes down
I get them from you
After the bombs blew
Shellshocked through
Echoes bounce and I drown

A broken-hearted soldier
Running so low
I keep on terrifying myself
As I read your war poems
Yeah I read your war poems
But I’m not a poet
I am only at war

I was desperate
Over the parapet
see the mounds of it
All that has been given up
Bullets repeating
My country is bleeding
Still your love
Somehow keeps welling up

For a broken-hearted soldier
Running so low I keep on terrifying myself
I read your war poems
I read your war poems
But I’m not a poet
I am only at war
I read your war poems
I read your war poems
I’m not a poet
I am only at war
I read your war poems
I read your war poems
But I’m not a poet
I am only at war
